Microplastics

Microplastics – a growing problem! The extent of the contamination has reached epic proportions within the shortest timescales. Today, on average each person ingests a credit-card sized amount of plastic every week – a rate which is on the increase.

Plastic enters our environment primarily due to inappropriate disposal methods, where mechanical processes and UV rays cause it to degrade into tiny particles. The end result: massive problems both for humanity and for the environment. Almost 90% of absorption in the human body comes from drinking water. Changing eating habits have only minimal effect. Microplastic residues were detected in human organs for the first time in 2020. The long terms effects on health have not yet been fully determined.

Even though international regulations have not yet been worked out in detail we are already adressing this issue, running trials and working closely with the relevant public authorities to develop filtration solutions using fine meshes. The first challenge is to use filtration to prevent  microplastics from entering the world’s oceans. Our solutions can then be developed to address the individual challenges.

  • Every week, we ingest 5 grams of microplastics. That equates to the weight of a credit card.
  • We are working with the relevant public authorities to develop individual filtration solutions
