Noise Reduction

Aircraft noise is a significant problem for residents and for the environment, particularly in densely populated urban areas. The noise is predominantly caused by engines and air flow along exposed parts of the aircraft – sources of noise for which BOPP meshes offer effective solutions.

Bypass ducts (nacelles), fan cowls, nose cowls, thrust reverser and blocker doors can be lined using our meshes, which are manufactured to strict Rayl values. Our Rayl meshes are laminated onto a supporting layer resembling a honeycomb, where sound waves both overlap and absorb within the cavities. This effectively flattens the peaks of specific frequencies and reduces the level of noise experienced. Alongside significant noise reduction, the meshes also act to protect important engine parts.

In comparison with other methods, our Rayl meshes exhibit by far the largest open area,  which enhances their effectiveness. The deciding factor is our robust mesh manufactured to exact Rayl values, which can withstand even the harshest conditions engines may be exposed to. This mesh is usually our stable Dutch weave in Avesta 253 or stainless steel 316L.

Where possible, we can help with your trials for future applications, for example cladding chassis parts or fuselages exposed to air flow.

  • Our products are aimed at OEMs in the business and commercial jet industry
  • Significant noise reduction
  • Meshes manufactured to strict Rayl values
  • Tight tolerances to +/- 4 Rayl across 85% of the mesh roll
